Konstantin Mineev, Partner at Corporate Practice of the law firm Rybalkin, Gortsunyan, Dyakin and Partners (RGD), has given comments for an RBC article about the sale of Russian assets abroad.
A total of 23 acquisitions of foreign assets owned by Russian businesses were completed by foreigners in 2023. One of the major deals was the sale of MTS Armenia CJSC, an Armenian subsidiary of MTS, to Cypriot company Fedilco Group Limited. RGD lawyers advised on the deal.
Konstantin said there is some interest in Russian assets abroad, but it is not very strong. He added that major deals, particularly those spanning multiple jurisdictions, require thorough preparation.
Konstantin cited management challenges as the main reason why Russian businesses sell their foreign assets located in unfriendly jurisdictions.
