On February 8–10, Sochi hosted Winter Legal Week – 2024, a three-day conference organized by a leading Russian legal media, Pravo.ru. The event brought together top managers from Russian and international companies and partners from major law firms to discuss the most pressing issues in the legal support industry.

Nato Tskhakaya, Partner and Head of Regulatory Practice at Rybalkin, Gortsunyan, Dyakin and Partners (RGD) spoke at the second session of the conference. Her topic was “Issuing approvals for residents’ deals with foreign companies from unfriendly countries: what do the authorities pay closer attention to now?”

Nato talked about changes in the approval criteria for sales of Russian assets by foreign companies over the previous two years and practical aspects which the regulatory body had started to focus on. She highlighted important nuances that needed to be taken into account to avoid a number of risks and adverse consequences. Those nuances included valuation of assets, availability of a discount, specifics of buyers and their financial solvency, KPI for the coming years, and existence of business development plans.

Experts had a lively discussion and answered a number of questions from the audience.

The conference was a great start to the new business season of 2024: the participants shared their experience, discussed the long-standing and emerging issues, and talked about the trends that set the future agenda.
