On 16 – 20 October 2023, Rybalkin, Gortsunyan, Dyakin and Partners (RGD) law firm participated and sponsored the 2023 Hong Kong Arbitration Week (HKAW), one of the largest annual events for dispute resolution professionals from all over the world. Organized by the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), HKAW is one of the most anticipated events among members of the arbitration community.
The organising committee of HKAW has selected RGD’s proposal to conduct a session dedicated to one of the widely discussed topics, change of arbitral seats. RGD’s session titled “Game of Seats: What the Future Holds for the CIS-related Disputes” was held at Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) on 16 October 2023.
Having extensive experience in the resolution of international disputes, Dmitry Kaysin, Partner at RGD Dispute Resolution Practice and Managing Partner of RGD International Central Asia, moderated the discussion. Tatiana Polevshchikova, Senior Associate at RGD Dispute Resolution Practice, shared RGD’s recent experience on the topic. Dr. Christopher To, Barrister at Gilt Chambers, provided insights on Hong Kong as a seat of arbitration and discussed recent legislative developments. Mark Tushingham, Barrister at Twenty Essex, contributed his views on ongoing changes and discussed the recent decisions made by the English courts in a number of matters involving RusChemAlliance LLC. Brad Wang, Deputy Secretary General at CIETAC HK, explained the possibility of addressing challenges encountered by the CIS parties from the institutional angle.
The speakers also discussed the current statistics in relation to the disputes seated in Southeast Asia and shared their views on further development of the trend.
