From 27 October to 3 November 2021, the FDI Moot, an annual international investment arbitration competition for law students, took place. The Competition is held in a form of a game arbitration proceedings between a state and an investor. It is a unique forum for academics, legal practitioners and young professionals to exchange knowledge and expertise.
The Competition consists of two stages: first, teams submit their written memorials for each of claimant and respondent within the case set by the moot, and after that, each team presents its arguments at the oral hearings. Student teams from the world’s largest and most prominent universities compete to win, and the Competition is traditionally judged by recognised experts in the matters of international investment arbitration.
In 2021, Rybalkin, Gortsunyan & Partners has sponsored the Competition and established a prize for “The Best CIS Team”. On 3 November an award ceremony was held with Dmitry Dyakin, Partner and Co-head of Dispute Resolution practice at RGP, attending it. Dmitry was chosen to present the prize to the winner in “The Best CIS Team” category – the team from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations:

We definitely will continue supporting this competition, which helps to promote international arbitration in general and investor-state disputes in particular at a time when the number of cases in the region is growing significantly”, - said Dmitry. “I am happy to announce that the prize will go to the team from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO). I am also very proud to say that five out of eight of RGP’s partners are MGIMO alumni which is pretty fascinating. My sincere congratulations to the MGIMO team – stay creative, stay engaged and keep the future for international arbitration in the region bright.”
In 2021, both the competition and the award ceremony were held online.
