Yesterday RGP held a roundtable on international commercial mediation with a Russian element. The event was attended by leading practitioners and experts from Moscow and Russian regions. Among the attendees were practicing mediators, members of the mediation groups of both the Russian Chamber of Commerce and the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, recognized by leading legal ratings on international mediation, including Chambers and Partners, and several renowned authors and academics on the subject.

The roundtable discussion focused on current trends in international commercial mediation in Russia and abroad involving Russian parties, as well as changes in Russian legislation on mediation.

The event was organised by Anthony Walker, Senior Adviser at RGP and a practicing mediator.

Anthony commented: “Mediation is playing an increasing role in international disputes around the world. National courts and international arbitral institutions are beginning to actively encourage mediation as a tool used both before and during arbitration and court proceedings. This international trend is now starting to be seen equally in disputes directly handled in Russia and in disputes outside of Russia but with Russian elements.”
