The annual forum “Best Antitrust practices 2021” by Forbes took place on October 22, 2021 sponsored by Rybalkin, Gortsunyan and Partners. The forum was dedicated to the burning issues of antitrust regulation.

Counsel and head of the antitrust practice at Rybalkin, Gortsunyan & Partners Nato Tskhakaya took part in the first session of the forum which was moderated by Andrey Tsyganov, deputy head of the Federal Antitrust Service of the Russian Federation.

During the first session the forum organizers invited the participants to reflect on the antitrust aspects in historical perspective, in addition to conventional discussion of current antitrust law issues. The participants turned to the classic stories of the world culture in an attempt to discover those relevant to the modern antitrust regulation.

Referring to “The Golden Rooster” fairy tale by Alexander Pushkin, Nato considered the specifics of the competition authority investigating the abuse of a dominant position in a market. It turned out, the poem described in detail all elements of the antitrust violation, as well as vividly illustrated the high importance of efficient antitrust compliance program for business. The wisdom of the Russian classic allowed the panelists to also focus on the moral aspects of abuse of a dominant position.

Nato’s speech was accompanied by a thematic presentation with illustrations by Ivan Bilibin and an opera by Rimsky-Korsakov – this outstanding idea got lots of positive feedback from the audience.

Traditionally, the forum was attended by representatives of business community, the antitrust practices of the leading Russian and international law firms, as well as representatives of the Federal Antimonopoly Service. The event was held off-line in Moscow and was attended by more than 150 participants.
