RGP’s counsel spoke at the first Uzbek Arbitration Week

The first Uzbek Arbitration Week took part in September, 2021 in Tashkent. The series of events devoted to the most topical issues of the international arbitration showcased Uzbekistan capabilities in international dispute resolution. The Week was supported by the Tashkent International Arbitration Centre (TIAC) – the country’s leading arbitral institution.

The Uzbek Arbitration Week gathered Uzbek government officials along with the world’s most prominent arbitration specialists and practitioners.

Counsel at Rybalkin, Gortsunyan and Partners Dispute Resolution practice Yan Kalish, also included into the TIAC arbitrators list, moderated session on sports arbitration. Also, Yan spoke during the session on investment arbitration – in an interview manner Yan discussed the crisis facing investment arbitration and the importance of the ICSID annulment procedure with a legendary arbitration specialist Carolyn Lamm (White&Case). Carolyn Lamm was appointed by President Clinton to the US Panel and later by the Government of Uzbekistan to the Uzbek Panel of Arbitrators for ICSID arbitration. Carolyn is a founding member of the American Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce and currently serves as Chairman of the Board.

The Uzbek Arbitration Week was of significant importance to the international arbitration community. In 2021 international arbitration in Uzbekistan has boosted after the new law on International Commercial Arbitration came into force and the new TIAC Rules were released. These developments have enabled Uzbekistan to present itself as a new regional arbitration hub.
