Yuri Makhonin discussed the arbitrability of disputes in which the parties or facts suggest possible presence of corruption, as well as the possibilities of recognizing and enforcing such awards in Russia and abroad. Yuri provided compelling examples from international arbitration disputes involving Russian companies, and also referred to the international investment arbitration experience.
Representatives of law firms Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, Dechert, Dentons, Herbert Smith Freehills, Hogan Lovells, Morgan Lewis, Norton Rose Fulbright, White & Case and others also spoke at the conference.
Other panels at the conference were focused on the basic mechanics and latest developments of the ICC International Court of Arbitration, effect of sanctions on international arbitration, specifics of arbitration proceedings in Asia, and mock pleadings on the issue of security for costs.
