Timur Abushakhmanov is a senior associate with our Dispute Resolution practice.
Timur has acted in arbitrations under the rules of the London Court of International Arbitration, the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, the International Commercial Arbitration Court at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation as well as under the ICSID (Additional Facility) Rules. Timur has extensive experience in coordinating multi-jurisdictional litigation proceedings. Timur has also represented clients before the Russian commercial courts, including the now defunct Supreme Arbitration.
Whilst working for more than seven years for a leading Russian law firm, Timur acquired profound knowledge of international commercial and investment arbitration and cross-border litigation. Holding a specialised master’s degree in dispute resolution, he has a deep understanding of the peculiarities of international commercial and investment arbitration.

Representing a major European agribusiness company in a dispute with a BVI subsidiary of a Russian agribusiness company under the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce Rules with regard to implementation of a share exchange agreement stipulating sweep of shares of Russian and Cypriot subsidiary companies worth over €10 million
Advising an entrepreneur on the recognition and enforcement in Belize of a judgment of the High Court of England and Wales
Advising a client on obtaining an injunctive relief in a New York court against a governmental agency
Advising a Russian state-owned company in a dispute against its former employee with parallel proceedings underway in Guernsey, the British Virgin Islands and in Luxembourg, the overall amount in dispute being around €50 million
Advising a Luxembourg-incorporated company on litigation proceedings for the recovery of US$45 million against the directors and management company of a Cypriot investment fund, in which it holds investor shares, before the District Court of Nicosia, Cyprus, as well as representing the company in a parallel criminal investigation in Russia
Representing an Irish state-owned bank in a US$4 billion complex multi-jurisdictional litigation dispute over landmark assets in Russia, in particular, defending the client before the Supreme Arbitration Court of Russia; this involved numerous proceedings before the Russian commercial courts on claims:
- To set aside arbitral awards seated in Moscow
- To restore the shareholders’ rights of Swedish and Cypriot shareholders over the Russian companies, with the Cypriot and Swedish law applied by the Russian courts
- To be admitted to the lists of creditors on the basis of guarantee and indemnity agreements governed by Irish law and mortgage agreements governed by Russian law
Representing major pharmaceutical and car-dealing companies in disputes against the State Labour Inspection for the City of Moscow, which imposed significant fines on them
Representing a major pharmaceutical company before FAS in connection with competitor’s complain regarding unfair advertising by our client
Representing the International Chamber of Commerce before the Russian Ministry of Justice in the process of obtaining of the license of the permanent arbitral institution in Russia
