English Law Practice

RGD English Law Practice is comprised of a team of English educated and English qualified lawyers (solicitors).


The English law practice assists clients with all English law issues, including M&A transactions, review and analysis of potential breaches and claims, pursuing or defending litigation or arbitration proceedings under English law.



We, collectively, have significant experience in a wide range of English law matters:


- English corporate law;


- M&A and private equity transactions;


- Joint Ventures and shareholders agreements;


- Personal and corporate guarantees;


- UK capital markets law and regulations (including stock market rules);


- Financing, loan and security documentation;


- Commercial contracts;

- Representing clients before the courts in common law jurisdictions (along with local counsel), including:


  • seeking interim measures, including anti-suit injunctions and freezing orders;

  • proceedings for dissolution of partnerships and companies in common law jurisdictions;

  • proceedings out of torts, including fraud and deceit;

  • bankruptcy proceedings;

  • trust litigation, including proceedings for termination of trusts;

  • set aside proceedings under the English Arbitration Act 1996;

  • obtaining Mareva and other injunctions, Norwich Pharmacal and receivership orders;


- Providing English law opinions, including to the Russian courts and arbitral tribunals with a seat in Russia;


- Conducting preliminary analysis of potential breaches of English-law governed agreements, likelihood and strength of arguments, likely defences, available remedies and available routes for enforcement.


Where appropriate, we engage specialist legal counsel (solicitors or barristers) in England or other relevant jurisdiction.


Our team has significant experience working not only with English law, but a wide range of other common law systems, including USA, Australia, Cyprus, BVI, Cayman, Belize, Bermuda, Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey.


The practice is headed by a partner Anthony Walker. He has over 20 years of experience advising on English law. He was a corporate lawyer for 15 years, focusing then on high-value English law international (cross-border) M&A. He is a qualified English solicitor-advocate specializing on international M&A and shareholder disputes.


The English law practice team includes Suren Gortsunyan, partner and head of corporate practice, and a senior associate Timur Abushakhmanov. Both are dual-qualified Russian advocates and English solicitors. Suren specializes in Russian corporate and International M&A while Timur focuses on dispute resolution, particularly, representing clients in international commercial and investment arbitration as well as commercial litigation.
